Jeanne Davida Barry

July 14, 1951 - February 6, 1997

...above is our "Forget-Me-Not" garland, also found on Hank's page...

This page is dedicated to our good friend and horsewoman Jeanne D. Barry, who passed away February 6, 1997 after a long battle with cancer
at the age of 45.

Jeannie meant many things to many people, but to most of us she meant friendship and fun!! She was a member of the Pennsylvania Arabian Horse Association and the Eastern Amateur Arabian Horse Show Circuit. She was a familiar face at both Arabian breed and open shows in the tri-state area and she will be greatly missed. She was always willing to help out a fellow competitor and gave unselfishly of her time and talent to help others.

Jeannie and I groomed for each other at our shows, and even though we owned and exhibited two completely different type of horses, we always seemed to have a great time! Jeannie exhibited my Paint gelding in Hunter Under Saddle at APHA shows and loved to drive him at driving shows, as shown above!
We shared a love for our horses and horse showing, and agreed that we both hated those ugly white fourth place ribbons!!! To this day, when I win one, I think fondly of Jeannie!

Jeannie's accomplishments in the show ring are much too long to even begin to list. She owned three horses during her lifetime:

  • SMF Silver Zatar, a 1978 Arabian gelding
  • Country Razzmatazz, a 1987 chestnut Arabian mare, whom she lost in 1992
  • Oran Berry Ina, a 1990 Arabian mare

Each of these horses earned numerous championships with Jeannie both riding and training them, in every event from halter to Western to English to Trail.

Jeannie was especially important in my life as she showed Hank in Hunter Under Saddle for me for a whole year in 1987, as I did not have the clothes or equipment. she then loaned me all of her tack and took me to the tack shop to shop for a hunt seat outfit. She also loved to drive Hank and was our partner in driving shows in the Double Jeopardy class, in which we were undefeated! She was a great groom for us and many other friends at shows at which she was not competing - we called her our "equine assistant!"

Jeannie leaves behind her father David Barry and her finacee Daniel Kelly, and scores of friends who loved her.

My horse be swift in flight

Even like a bird:

My horse be swift in flight

Bear me now in safety

Far from the enemy's arrows

And you shall be rewarded

With streamers and ribbons red.
